Can hypnotherapy help me? It’s a question I’m asked a lot and my answer is almost invariably the same:

Yes. If you want to make positive changes in your life, hypnotherapy can help you do that. It can help you to cope better, feel better, and even sleep better, not to mention achieving big, life-changing goals.

To do this, you and I will work together over a series of sessions. First, we’ll discuss what goals you want to achieve, then we’ll collaborate to help you harness the natural power of your own brain and use it to come up with creative, effective ways to achieve those goals.

It’s this collaborative process that helps us to achieve the best results – allowing you to take control of your life now and in the future.

What Can I Expect from Hypnotherapy?

If your only experience of hypnosis is watching a performance hypnotist on stage or TV, then you might be surprised to find that clinical hypnotherapy is very different.

Hypnotherapy isn’t something that is “done” to you. It’s not mind-control and I can’t make you do anything that you don’t want to do. Even if I tried to, your subconscious mind would simply reject any suggestions that aren’t helpful to you and would only accept those suggestions that will help you to achieve your desired outcomes.

Instead, you and I will work together and you’ll engage in the sessions with me and take an active role in achieving what you want to achieve.

When you think about it, this is a much better approach than me simply doing something to you as it means you’re fully in control both during our sessions and when you go back out into the world to achieve those life-changing goals.

It means you have an opportunity to use your own inner-strength and power to make things happen. Don’t worry if you don’t think you have any strength or power, either. One of the great things about solution-focused hypnotherapy is that we can help you discover inner resources that you may not already know you have.

What Happens in a Hypnotherapy Session?

During your initial consultation, we’ll first talk about what you want to achieve. I’ll then talk to you about how the brain works and how we can harness its natural power to help you achieve those outcomes.

In our regular hypnotherapy sessions, we’ll talk about the progress you’ve been making and work through some exercises to help you develop a positive, solution-focused mindset before I gently and safely guide you into hypnosis. We’ll then use that hypnosis to reinforce all of the positive work we’ve done together.

What is Hypnosis Like?

Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation which allows us to bypass your conscious mind and make positive suggestions to your subconscious mind which can help you make the changes you want to make in your life.

You may be surprised to learn that the “trance” state that we enter into in hypnosis is in fact very ordinary and happens to us all the time.

If you’ve ever been driving and got home without remembering anything about the journey, if you’ve ever been reading a book or watching and found that you’d completely zoned out, or if you’ve ever been out for a run and found your mind was elsewhere despite the fact that your body kept safely running along, then you’ve already experienced trance.

The only difference between that and what we do is that we’ll be guiding you into that trance state on purpose and using it to help you.

Can I Get ‘Stuck’ in Trance?

Not at all. At the end of every session, I’ll gently guide you back out of the trance state so that you’re wide awake and ready to get on with your day.

Though some people can enter a deeper state of hypnosis than others, nothing bad can happen and you can’t “get stuck.”

Even if I suddenly vanished into thin air while you’re in hypnosis, you’d simply wake up when you were ready to do so as if you’d just enjoyed a nice, peaceful nap.

What is Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution-focused hypnotherapy is exactly what it sounds like: A form of clinical hypnotherapy that is focused on solutions rather than problems.

We don’t need to do a deep-dive into your past and we don’t have to bring up traumatic memories or experiences. Instead, we look to the future and to you discovering and enjoying being the best version of you that can be.

Instead of focusing on what you don’t want, we focus on what you do want and how you can make those things happen for you.
